Elon Musk's Optimus humanoid robot from Tesla was shown folding laundry in a scripted demo, although it might not yet be ready to take over household chores. Optimus is not yet autonomous and operates like "a very expensive marionette," performing scripted actions to fold a shirt on a table. Nevertheless, the goal is for Optimus to eventually perform tasks autonomously without constraints like a fixed table height or a predetermined number of items.
Tesla's release of technical demonstrations aims to showcase the bot's mechanical capabilities rather than its AI. Despite the advanced animatronics, Musk's claims of the robot reaching full functionality within three to five years seem overly optimistic compared to the current state of robotic technology. For now, human laundresses can keep their jobs, as Optimus remains a work in progress.
