Dutch startup Monumental is using robots to lay bricks, bringing automation to the construction industry valued at around $2 trillion in the U.S. alone.
Monumental specializes in red clay bricklaying, distinguishing itself from competitors like Hadrian X that work with concrete masonry blocks. Founded in 2021, the startup has undertaken pilot projects in the Netherlands and formed partnerships with 25 contractors.
The company's approach includes an autonomous cart for heavy payloads, robots for spreading mortar, and precise brick placement. A recent $25 million funding round aims to expand hiring, scale manufacturing, and diversify the types of bricks handled by their robots.
